You're important and you deserve to get that help, even though it might be a difficult journey.

Dr. Irene Zoesch (US Army, 2014-2018) shares why it's important to get help for moral injury — and how she realized that she's important to the people around her.

When I was inpatient after my
suicide attempt, the doctor told

me, I know things are hard
for you right now,

but remember the people
that would be left behind

if you weren't here.

And that's, I think, the biggest
take home message for myself

is on the days
that I still have a bad day.

I remember

that if I wasn't here,

the loss to my family,

my small circle of friends
or future veterans or patients

that I might take care
of would be too great.

And so you're important
and you deserve

to get that help, even though
it might be a difficult journey

and it's okay

to go
through a difficult journey

because you'll come out
stronger.

It sounds like a cliche,
but it really is true.

It's part of the reason why
I'm able to talk about it today

and to continue to advocate for

helping people get better.
