You're able to return back to a productive life.

Christopher D. Goehner (US Navy, 2003 - 2006) talks about how PTSD treatment can help.

Transcript

If I was to not go through treatment, I wouldn't be here.

There is no ifs, ands or buts about that.

I would be dead.

Treatment with getting the medications helped brought me

down to a neutral level to where I could start working

through things my social worker and understanding.

And then getting the service animal helped.

I couldn't have a service animal

if I couldn't take care of myself.

I couldn't take care of myself if I didn't get the medications.

So it really was a chain of events that led

up to finally not needing medications

and not needing the use of the service animal as often

or as frequently so you're able to return back

to a productive life and being able to go back to college

and sitting in the front row and not worried

about a door opening behind you, or a student dropping a pen,

or a book slamming in the middle

of the classroom and being set off.

It really was the chain of events and continuing to work

on it knowing that it's something you can live with

and survive with and you have to take the first step

to be able to get to the end.
