You know how to respond to those memories and those symptoms much more effectively.

Dr. Kathryn Doyle (Clinical Psychologist) explains how PTSD treatment can improve your life.

Transcript

One of the great things about these evidence-based

psychotherapy approaches are that they are time-limited.

They are not forever therapies.

And that doesn't mean that at the end of treatment

you're magically cured and you never have memories

that are disturbing or symptoms that might surface.

What it means is that you know how to respond

to those memories and those symptoms much more effectively,

and overall, your level of symptoms have reduced.

The good news is that treatment using these types

of therapy techniques is relatively short-term.

We're talking about maybe 12 to 15 sessions, on average.

So, if you could think of that as weekly therapy,

that's about three to four months of your life

that you might be in a place where you're feeling better.

And for people who've been struggling with trauma symptoms

for maybe 30 years, some of our Vietnam Vets coming back,

that's pretty amazing stuff.
