Am I ever gonna be like I was before the war?
Hell, no. No one is.
No one is.
People that see dead people in car accidents,
you're never the same after you witness something like that.
You're never the same, so quit trying
to get back to what you were.
You're not gonna be what you were.
You're now something else.
In my opinion, you're something better.
You're a combat Veteran.
You're not even one hundredth of one percent
of the American population.
Don't try and go back to what you were.
You gotta understand what happened
and understand your part in it and the things
that have gone on, and then you, just like on a hump
where you are about ready to croak 'cause it sucks,
you just put one foot in front of the other,
one foot in front of the other.
That's all you can do.
Some days you go chow to chow.
Some days go, some guys go, from sun up to sun down.
Sometimes you can only go about 10, 15 minutes at a time,
but if that's what it takes, that's what it takes.
And you will get better.
You will get better.
I promise you'll get better.
