You don't have to run in with both feet and open up instantly.

Edward J. Fair (US Army, 1970 - 1972) talks about what PTSD treatment was like.

With therapy, it does show you, it teaches you about yourself.

And sometimes people can see things that you can't see

in the mirror, that you need outside resources to help you.

And I found the doctor that I trusted, you know,

you got to build a trust level.

You don't have to run in with both feet and open up instantly.

Take three or four sessions just to get to know that you're going

to get comfortable with this person, that you can trust them

and that way when it does come down to the real nitty-gritty,

the work, you've already built a rapport and it makes it easier

to discuss things, the trauma that you've gone through.

And let me tell you, it doesn't have to be something

as horrifying as mine.

Trauma is trauma.

You'd be surprised some

of the littlest things you've seen could've made long term

dent in your mind.
