When you realize that you're not able to do it on your own.

Dr. Edward MacPhee, Psychiatrist, explains how to know if you're ready to get help for PTSD.

Transcript

I think that you would know that

you're ready for treatment when you realize

that you're not able to do it on your own.

When the PTSD symptoms have taken on a life of their own,

and they are having a significant impairment

in your quality of life, in your overall ability

to function, and despite whatever you end up doing,

it's not working.

And this can be something that it

takes some time for you to recognize.

It's not something where after two days after a trauma,

you say, "Okay, I'm really having problems."

This is something that takes some time

for people to be able to recognize.
