You have control over your life as it is,
and you're afraid that if you come in for therapy,
I'm going to give up this control.
I would say to you that what you think you have control
over is very narrow, you live a very narrow life.
And if you come into therapy with an open mind
and allow us to just talk to you, I think you'll find out
that you can have much greater control
over how your life continues than you do right now.
Right now, you're living in,
I like to call it a tunnel, with tunnel vision.
You don't want to go out, you don't want to go to the movies,
you don't want to go to the store and be in a line,
you don't like people to come up behind you.
These are all symptoms of PTSD.
If you allow us to work with you, you'll find out that it's OK
to go to a movie, that you're safe.
It's OK to sit in a restaurant and not have to
see the door, that you're safe.
So safety, trust, and control are huge components of PTSD,
and if you allow yourself to come in
and just trust the process,
you'll find out that you have greater control of your life
at the end of treatment.
