What if I have a TBI?

Dr. Kathryn Doyle, Clinical Psychologist, answers common questions about PTSD.

Transcript

One of the common concerns of Veterans that I've experienced

in terms of doing these types of treatments came

from a Veteran who'd experienced a mild brain injury,

somebody who thought that because of their brain injury,

that the emotional part

of the therapy would be too overwhelming for them,

and they were afraid that the brain injury would make it more

difficult for them to control and manage their feelings.

What indeed happened after we completed the therapy,

because we did a round of Cognitive Processing Therapy,

was that their emotionality decreased following the therapy,

which was very surprising to them.

And a lot of the fears that they had in the front end

about how the brain injury would make it more difficult

to benefit from the treatment ended up not being true.
