We think we're so macho and don't need anyone to help.

Thomas Hammonds, US Army, US Navy 1976 - 2009, talks about why he didn't ask for help with his PTSD right away.

The biggest thing is that, especially among men,

we think we're so macho and don't need anyone to help

and we don't seek help and we actually do need that help.

And you need to address it before it gets worse,

because once it gets worse, it becomes unmanageable

and it can take over your life greatly.

So I would encourage you to be very patient, talk to the VA,

there's a VA rep that you can make contact

with at the hospital.

Tell them what's going on with you and they can direct you

to the right department.

It may take some time to get to the right person

but with patience and honesty and openness,

if there is a problem it can be addressed, it can be corrected.
