I imagine that a good portion of my father not asking for help
had to do with, that wasn't the military thing at the time.
You know, it was you went and -- it's like World War II.
You went, you served, you came home,
and you put it all behind you.
And you had two kids and bought a house,
and you lived happily ever after.
And that's kind of the way I think they sort of indoctrinate,
is just, you're a soldier, you go and do your thing,
and you go home when you're done
and don't think about it too much.
And I think, you know, depending on the war,
they all carry their own certain special issues,
special things that go along with it.
The Vietnam War was not, I don't think,
pleasant for a lot of people coming back,
and I don't think the government was particularly there for
encouraging people to go get help if there was an issue.
