The VA is slowly starting
to become a place

where I go to first when
I need help with things.

They were really, really slow

with all of my needs
for medical assistance,

for appointments.

I've gotten turned away.

I was told that I didn't
qualify for surgery

because of this reason or
because of that reason.

However, a big part of my
PTSD that still lingers

is my addiction to alcohol.

And so I'm in a program now

through the VA and they acted right away.

They acted right away.

So in this program, I meet
with veterans every week.

We meet every week and we talk about

what we're going through

and how the alcohol
has impacted our lives,

how the PTSD impacts our lives

and the coping skills that we use.

And I've never been in
a program like that.

And so it's building my trust with the VA

when it comes to other things.

But I still have a dependency
on alcohol at times

that I'm trying to fight.

And with this program through the VA,

it's rebuilding my trust
that they'll be there for me

if something does happen

and I need to speak with
somebody right away.
