Understanding where they're coming from...

Nathan Ball, Husband of a Veteran with PTSD, talks about what was hardest for him.

The hardest thing about living with somebody that has PTSD

would probably just be understanding

where they're coming from

because sometimes it can seem like they're acting irrationally

or the things they're saying are, you know...

I sometimes find myself wondering,

"Why would my wife think that that's odd,

or that that's over the top, or that that's, whatever?"

Just trying to understand that person

and recognize that there are other things at play.

And my wife in particular, she has agoraphobia,

she has anxiety, and she has panic attacks,

so she has several different things.

I don't think there's one particular thing

I could point to that's difficult.

All those things combined do make it more difficult,

but overall, we just try to work past what we can

and come to a mutual understanding that certain things

have to be this way, and that's just the way it is.

But yeah, and I think if you can do that,

you definitely lessen the effects of the PTSD

on yourself as a family member.
