[Treatment] has enabled me to thrive in these environments while still regulating within myself.

Ayla Bennett (US Army, 2004-Present) shares how the tools she learned in PTSD and substance use treatment have helped her thrive in social settings where alcohol is all around.

Transcript

Sometimes in social situations,

it's hard to regulate

yourself with alcohol.

because of this

environment that we create.

You don't have to

remove yourself

from these social situations

to put yourself first

or to regulate your drinking.

The tools that I've learned

with this PTSD and alcohol study

has enabled me to thrive

in these environments,

while still

regulating within myself

and when other people

try to peer pressure

into drinking or taking shots or

playing drinking games,

I am able to

confidently navigate

these social situations

while still being true to myself

and still being aware of what

my limits are, but

still enjoy these environments.

I'm very thankful for

the skills I've learned

so that I can

still maximize my time

with my brothers

and sisters in arms

in a fun way.

Work hard, play hard,

but also still be

safe and smart about it as well.
