They're angry. They're defensive. They're withdrawn.

Chris Hamilton, Son of a Veteran with PTSD, talks about what it's like to live with someone who has PTSD.

I would say that living with someone with PTSD is,

when you're first recognizing,

all you know is there's a problem.

Even though I'm actually a registered nurse

and a clinician myself, I didn't make the diagnosis

nor is that in my purview to make that diagnosis,

but I didn't connect the dots.

So I know that for a layperson,

someone with no medical training,

you just know that something's not right.

You know that they're angry, they're defensive,

they're withdrawn, but you don't know the big picture

until you get them plugged in.

So, I would say to anyone who's living with someone

or has a close family member or anyone who is different

than they were before they came home or had a traumatic event,

that they need to get them plugged into a provider

who can assess what's going on with them.
