The most extreme example
that I can share

is if you have somebody that's
in a firefight in the moment,

they're defending the mission,
they're defending

their values for protection

of the United States
and the Constitution.

But they may grow up
in a religious environment

where one of the core tenants
is thou shalt not kill.

And now they have
probably experienced

some moral injury
without realizing it,

because they are doing
the mission in the moment.

They're on it.

But then as they have time
and space,

there's something about
the psyche that ends up pulling

and going, something's not right

here, and it's hard
to think about what it is.

That's not right.
