I don't usually talk with my patients
about how medications are going to cure them.
While that certainly can happen,
it just doesn't happen anywhere near as often
as anybody would like, so I think that what we're doing
with medications is to help the patient get their
anxiety, get their sleep, all the PTSD symptoms,
to get them under control so that they are manageable.
Now, I think that there's an important role
for medications, as well as therapy,
because I think therapy offers a much better opportunity
for the person to actually reach the point
of being completely asymptomatic.
So, the medications, in my mind, set the stage,
and can really help out, but it's really,
the psychotherapy is where the money is at.
