It does put an immense amount of stress

on the relationship, and if there is some sort of

couples therapy in the VA, as far as --

in my experience, it has been very supportive

even towards same-sex relationships.

And just explore that option together in a safe setting.

And there are resources out there for partners of Veterans

and support groups, but I would encourage both of you

to make that journey together.

The first three weeks are the hardest, but after that,

just seeing your partner heal,

it brings you both closer together, from my experience.

I mean, there were times when I thought

Robin was going to leave me, and it got really close to that,

but now we're really closer.

I can't imagine living my life without her

because of this journey we completed together.
