[The] therapeutic relationship is absolutely critical.

Dr. Edward MacPhee (Psychiatrist) describes PTSD treatment.

Transcript

PTSD itself tends to isolate a person,

that they've become disconnected from

the people around them, their loved ones,

and they feel like they're the only one

who is actually going through this,

so the prescriber really needs to understand

that this is what the person is going through,

and to reach out and connect to them

from the first moment of the first visit,

to set the stage for that therapeutic relationship,

because I think that therapeutic relationship

serves as the foundation for any treatment

that is going to be going on.

And I'd actually go as far as to say that

I think that without a good therapeutic relationship,

the medications may not work as well as they probably could.
