Something told me I need to get to the VA…

Eddie Statsmann (Infantry, US Army, 1987 - 1990) Fort Hood, Texas.

Transcript

I went to the VA in LA
on a whim and a prayer.

They weren't expecting me.

I had no family,

no friends,

nobody there.

I showed up at a bus station

with $40 in my pocket and just
wanted to get my life right.

Could've either went ahead
and been homeless on skid row

'cause that's where the bus station was

and I would have been fine with
being homeless on skid row.

I'd been homeless for awhile

and something told me I
needed to get to the VA.

And of all things that happened to me,

I got into a program
at 10 o'clock at night

on a Friday night.

Into a program,

not into a psych ward or detox,

I got into a program

on a Friday night at 10
o'clock at night at the VA.

That don't happen.

Somebody was watching out for me

and knew that I needed help.
