Something happens and it goes against everything you believe in, but you still had to do it.

Eddie Hoffman (US Marine Corps, 2001 – 2010) explains how moral injury compares to PTSD.

Moral injury, to me,

it was a deeper thing
that it's a...

it's not just an event
that happened

and then you have to process it.

It's something that happens.

And it goes against everything
you believe in,

But you still had to do it.

And you're being
pat on the back for it.

You're getting awards for it,
you're getting

people calling you a hero for it
or whatever it is.

You know, just terms thrown
around and deep down inside

your, you know, you wish
that event had never happened.

You know, maybe something

more extreme
like you're considering,

you know, ending it all
because you can't deal with it.

And, you know, for me,
PTSD was kind of cut and dry.

This was something
that went much deeper.
