Someone approached me and said, "...you're happier, you're smiling."

Michelle Fisher (US Air Force, 2000 - 2011) talks about how PTSD treatment can help.

When I started PE, there was a lot of moments

where I thought, "I can't do this."

It was so hard, like, I wanted to give up,

like, "I'm not strong enough, I can't face this."

But I knew, like with the military, you just got to keep going.

Like in all those moments in training

and even during deployments, you have to push yourself.

I kind of held on to that core value.

Well, one day I went to that group, the substance abuse group,

and one of the ladies there, an older woman

who is actually retiring from the Marine Corps this month --

she's also on the board of directors

for a local college and stuff -- someone I hold in high esteem

who didn't know me very well, approached me and said,

"You know Michelle, I've noticed a lot of difference in you.

You're making eye contact now, you are more animated.

You're happier, you're smiling."

And that was about halfway through my treatment,

and that was the big sign that I knew it was working,

and that gave me the strength to continue to keep going.
