A smell can come into your nostrils and set you back.

Donald Joseph Prevost, US Marine Corps 1969 - 1970, talks about how he knew he had PTSD.

Transcript

You can be walking down the street on a rainy day

and a smell can come into your nostrils

and set you back 35 years to a place,

a day and a time in your mind.

You can close your eyes for one split second

and see it, almost see it.

And usually that day something happened that affected you

and you'll contemplate that for the day

because that feeling came in or you'll just move along.
