PTSD means I'm crazy?

Horace Ace Carter, US Army 1977 - 1999, talks about why he didn't ask for help with his PTSD right away.

I looked at myself and I said, "I'm a very well-educated man.

I'm working on a master's degree through one of the

best colleges in the United States.

I've held several positions as president and vice president

through non-profit organizations, did a lot of

public speaking, I'm very instrumental in the church."

All these thoughts went through my mind, and I said,

"PTSD means I'm crazy."

To me, that's what, at first -- I'm mentally unstable.

But it doesn't mean, you know, what PTS means to me is

something in my past has traumatized me,

and unless I get treatment for this through the VA,

I would never ever be able to maintain

any meaningful relationship,

whether it's in the community, or marriage, or anything.
