The person can start to see some relief.

Dr. Edward MacPhee (Psychiatrist) explains how PTSD treatment can improve your life.

Transcript

I would actually hope that shortly after the first visit,

especially within the first couple of weeks

of starting a medication, particularly an anti-depressant,

that the person can start to see some relief.

And it may be something as simple as their fuse is

a bit longer, that they're not as snappy around

the people that they care about.

And so the effects can be very subtle,

at least at first, and since it takes some time

for the effects to kick in, the person may actually

have a difficult time putting everything into words,

other than, "I'm doing better."

But we would hope to see improvements

in all the PTSD symptoms.

Less irritable, better able to sleep,

less anxious, less depressed, all those sorts of things

that we would hope to see

subtle but significant improvements with.
