I didn't wanna ask for
help when I got back
because I thought I had my life together.
I was a man. I just got done
with five years in the Army.
And people in the community,
they looked up to me.
Here's David, our hometown
hero, Rochester, New York
Purple Heart veteran cavalry scout.
On the outside, I was
Superman to everyone else.
But on the inside, I was dying.
I was dying on the inside and
trying to keep up this facade
of what everyone else
thought of me in public
while I'm slowly dying on the
inside, going home every night
to drink or sleeping on
Monroe Avenue at McDonald's
or bar-hopping down Monroe Avenue,
going to all these different bars
and just trying to drown my sorrows.
