Often the treatment sounds scarier than it is...

Dr. Peter Tuerk, Clinical Psychologist, shares advice for people who may be concerned about PTSD.

Transcript

One of the things that we typically find is that

the treatment sounds a lot scarier than it is.

After the very first time where somebody actually approaches,

revisits their traumatic experience,

often the first thing they say afterwards was,

"Wow, I've never done that before,

and it feels pretty good to talk about it,"

even though I might have gotten anxious,

my heart rate would have increased,

or maybe I cried a little bit.

It feels good to face these things.

PTSD bullies us, it pushes us around.

In one sense, it puts up police tape in our head

and says, "You can't go there, you can't go there."

So the act of clearing down that police tape

is something that just feels good.

It feels right.
