No one should have
to live without joy.
(serene music)
Before I started working
with my therapist
at the VA,
I would have flashbacks
of my traumatic incident.
A lot of thoughts I
would keep running around
and around, and
around in my brain.
I was isolating
myself a lot socially.
I had lost all joy
in my life.
But working with
my therapist,
I've kind of turned
that around.
It's much easier
for me to be still,
to slow down, to
appreciate things more.
Just taking joy in
the environment,
the people that
you're surrounded by,
to be more aware of the
other people around you,
I'm getting more
joy from them now
than I have for a
long, long time.
(serene music)
The activities that I do,
a lot of them revolve
around serving
other people,
and that is the way that I
get personal fulfillment.
How's Barbara?
- She's good, she's dry.
- I'm more at
peace socially.
Smile for the camera.
(upbeat music)
- We have arrived.
- Safely
- Safe and sound.
- Yes.
(bell ringing)
- Aim.
Fire.
Aim.
Fire.
(serene music)
- When you've
wrapped up the day,
and you've achieved
even just a portion
of what you've intended to
do when you got up
and it doesn't always
involve just things
that morning,
you're doing for yourself,
there's a sense of
contentment there
that you're here
for a reason.
And I'm at peace with that.
