There are three main clusters of symptoms
for posttraumatic stress disorder, right?
There's hyper-vigilance, which is double- triple-checking your
door locks at night, jumping three feet when a door slams.
That's sort of hyper-vigilance.
There is also re-experiencing,
which is nightmares, flashbacks, intrusive thoughts,
thinking about the traumatic event all the time.
And the third component is avoidance.
So the idea is, if you can get rid of that avoidance,
that the hyper-vigilance and the re-experiencing can then be
addressed and can be slowly, hopefully,
slowly chipped away at.
