[My therapist] sat down with my mom.

Andrew Reeves (US Army, 1999 - 2009) talks about how PTSD treatment can help.

Transcript

What helped me was meeting somebody like Mr. Ortiz

that actually sat with me and gave me therapy,

gave me suggestions, helped me find treatment.

At one point, he sat down with my mom and talked to my mom

because my mom had a hard time

understanding what I was dealing with.

And that's big because you don't get that

from a lot of people, you don't get that in therapy, a lot,

where they're willing to really bring in your loved ones

without trying to blame somebody for it.

Everybody's afraid, when you go to therapy

and you bring your wife or your mother,

they're going to be like,

"It's all your fault, buddy, it's all her fault."

That's why, "Fix the wife," or, "Fix the mother,"

you know, "The mother is the problem, the root of all evil."

That's not it, they're there to help.

He really helped my mom understand

because when I went to my mom and said, "Look, I need help,"

my mom said, "We'll go to church.

God will give you a way, God will help you.

Your faith will help you, the priest will help you."

Not to knock any of that, it didn't help.
