My name is Albert M Perna.
I finished with a rank of Corporal,
even though I served as a PFC most of the time, and
I was in the 39th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division.
I fought in North Africa, Sicily, Normandy,
Northern France, Belgium, and Germany.
And when I crossed over into Germany is where I was captured.
I was captured in Germany, September the 30th, 1944,
and I was released by the Americans
overrunning our position in Glauchau, Germany.
That was April the 15th, 1945, exactly six-and-a-half months.
When I was captured, I was approximately 135 to 140 pounds,
and when I was released, I was 80 pounds.
