My brother put it best. He said, "You just never had an off button."

Chris Swift (US Army, 1999-2018) explains how drinking became a social activity for him, especially between deployments.

Transcript

You know,

I drank while I was in school.

And then when I left

for the military,

I got to the military

and it was, you know, normal.

But then, like when I came

home from deployments,

it was excessive because

I have to make up for lost time.

So I didn't get to drink

for 12, 15 months.

So now I'm going to

make the most of it.

Like when I come home,

I'm going to hit it hard

and everybody

wants to take you out.

So you're always going out.

You're always

at a bar,

you're at a restaurant,

you're at places that openly

sell lots of alcohol.

So it was it was just natural

for me to just pick it up.

And, you know,

my brother put it best.

He said, “You

just never had an off button.”
