I would want to say, "Mom, I'm very, very proud of you,
and I really respect the way you handled that situation.
And I remember the day, 9/11 in specific, when I finally
got you on the phone and you said you were retiring that day.
And I said, 'No, don't do that.
If you do, the terrorists win.'
And you didn't stop, and I'm proud of that.
I really am.
You stuck it out, and you finished your tour,
and you made a difference in all those people's lives,
on the policy side, which -- you were dealing with
health care policy with the Air Force, at the highest level.
So that's probably the thing I'm most proud
and that you've been able to finish that,
stay on task here in Charleston, and then be probably
the greatest grandmother on the planet to the two kids.
You're always there.
You always step up to the plate when we go on trips
or we need a night out for dinner.
Whatever it is, you're always there.
You buy them too much stuff, but that's OK,
and we love you for it."
