A lot of Veterans didn't make it back, so I had nothing to complain about.

Wanda Pegues, US Army 2003 - 2005, talks about why she didn't ask for help with her PTSD right away.

My worst nightmare was Black Hawk down,

and we had a Black Hawk to go down.

Not to go into it but I didn't know that,

I knew that the experience stayed with not just myself

but my unit for a while.

And when I got back, I didn't know about PTSD.

I just knew that I couldn't get thoughts out of my mind.

I could not function.

A lot of Veterans didn't make it back,

so I had nothing to complain about.

I had nothing that nobody would listen to.

I need to, I'm a senior NCO, suck it up and be grateful

for my life that's still here.

And I was locked into that.

And like let me just spiritually deal with this and go on,

and I was just was not doing a good job of it.
