I had grown up being, you
know, bullied by kids in school

and those kind of things 'cause
that's kind of, you know,

typical kids bully each other
'cause they look different

or whatever's going on.

But when I went into the military,

my initial thought was the
military is not like that.

And then I had a really rude awakening

when I first went in because
it was exactly like that.

A lot of the stereotypes

and biases came out in
my military service.

A lot of it was directed towards
me as an Indigenous person.

The things that they would say,

a lot of stereotyping, racist remarks,

a lot of just pushback on
me just trying to progress

in the job that I was doing

and just being taken seriously.

So it was a big challenge.
