Learn as much as you can about PTSD.

Dr. Matthew Friedman, Psychiatrist, shares advice for people who may be concerned about PTSD.

Transcript

I think that my best advice is

to learn as much as you can about PTSD.

Our website, ptsd.va.gov, is an excellent place

to get that information.

To be open with your family

and people who love you and care about you.

Ask them the question.

Understand how PTSD manifests itself.

Ask them if they think you might have PTSD.

Don't argue with them, at least not at first,

until you have learned all you can learn.

And if you have any question about the possibility

that you might have PTSD, come and see an expert

so that he or she can either confirm or disconfirm

that question and, if you do have PTSD,

get you into treatment as soon as possible.
