I did, participated in Prolonged Exposure therapy at the VA
and I unlocked some suppressed memories that I,
prior to that experience I would have told you it was all
hogwash, that you don't suppress memories of traumatic events.
But I re-experienced it for the first time
in the therapist's office and it was fascinating to me
that I had, the very traumatic event that had numbed me,
I had forgotten all the details to it and then had
to reinvent why the aftermath took place.
It's very important to unlock what caused the PTSD
so that you can forgive yourself for one thing
and understand why you're coping so poorly.
Knowledge is power, so it empowers you.
