It's opened up doors for me that I had closed for so long.

Ginger Mercer (US Army, 1992 - 1994) talks about how PTSD treatment can help.

Transcript

I have been connected with certain groups now at the VA that

take you out and get you outdoors and get you doing activities.

Sometimes with PTSD, we tend, at least personally,

I tended to avoid people and crowds,

but going on group activities has opened my awareness

and has helped me to step forward and keep moving forward.

And recently I went skiing here with the VA,

and it's the first time I've been out in three years.

I've been in Utah for three years,

and I've been never been skiing.

So, I went skiing, and I just was so amazed at

how I could embrace being, having PTSD, not avoiding things,

not being isolated, and going out there and skiing

and just being free and out in nature.

That has propelled me to want to do more,

you know, more activities, more outside.

It's opened up doors for me that I had closed for so long.
