It's kind of embarrassing...

Tyler Jones, US Marine Corps 2002 - 2006, talks about why he didn’t ask for help with his PTSD right away.

I think there's a stigma attached to it,

and there is still this stigma.

For me, it's still feeling like I'm not a real Marine

because I was discharged for a medical reason.

In my opinion, the only time you get discharged from the

Marine Corps is, you know, at the end of 20 years or,

at the end of 20 years!

And I didn't do 20 years, and I carry a retired ID card,

and I'm not even close enough to being old enough to have one,

and it's kind of embarrassing at the same time

because that's not the way I wanted it to go.

But I'm glad that I got into treatment when I did

because otherwise I'd probably be a lot worse off,

at the bottom of a whisky bottle somewhere

without any connections in this world.

I probably would have alienated and

completely burned every bridge with everyone I know.
