- My name is Rodney Bracey.
United States Navy, retired and my quality
of life has increased tremendously since treatment.
(pleasant music)
Before I went to treatment, I wasn't happy.
I didn't know why I wasn't happy.
I did not know I had PTSD. (slow guitar music)
I was Administrative Personnel in the Navy.
I went to the office, I sat behind my desk
and I did it for eight hours a day.
And I would come straight back home
and stay in the house until the next day
when the cycle started over again.
I wasn't happy. (sparks sparking)
I was drinking way too much.
Anything of a personal nature, that pretty much stopped.
(guitar music)
If I had not gone through the treatment,
I would still be sitting in that
one bedroom apartment, still sitting behind a desk
of that boring Administration job
and more than likely, I probably
would have drank myself to death.
(sparks sparking)
After treatments, I had the confidence in myself
to do something crazy, something
well out of my comfort zone.
I said, yes, I think I want to be a welder.
And to this day, friends and family still
ask me why I'm welding, ya know.
You're retired from the Navy after 22 years,
you should be at a comfortable job,
sitting in air conditioning and enjoying your retirement.
I said, well, I am enjoying my retirement.
It's actually fun going to work and welding all day.
And I can see it, I can touch it and I could actually
show somebody that I helped create that.
