It was finally being validated, and that meant the world to me.

Jennifer S. Norris (US Air Force, 1996 - 2010) talks about what PTSD treatment was like.

Transcript

The first session was an absolute godsend.

It felt like everything aligned with this person.

Like, finding the card, reaching out for the first time,

and getting this person who just said all the right things

was the most validating, amazing experience

I ever could of asked for.

Just the fact that her title was

Military Sexual Trauma Counselor,

or Coordinator, or whatever it was,

that in and of itself, there was finally a name for what I had

been through, like, it was finally being validated.

And that meant the world to me because when it first happened

I didn't have the VA to turn to.

So, I realized that "OK, I'm not the only one

this has happened to.

This has happened to enough people

that they actually have services for this now.

So I'm going to go get myself some services, too,

because I need some help."
