It was cathartic.

Thomas Hammonds (US Army, US Navy, 1976 - 2009) talks about what PTSD treatment was like.

Talking with the counselor has been very helpful.

When I spoke with him about certain things,

I told him that I was afraid to go back to work

because my coworkers would not understand or they would rip me

about being, having a mental illness.

And he said, "Just go along with it."

And once he told me, suggested that, that allowed me,

encouraged me actually to talk more freely about it to people

that were close to me.

It was cathartic in the fact that, as I talked about it

and people heard about it, it became more or less real.

It's a reality.

It's not something that you imagine that happened.
