Is it ever too late?

Dr. Kathryn Doyle, Clinical Psychologist, answers common questions about PTSD.

Transcript

It is not ever too late.

In fact, my colleague and I share this anecdote,

this story about a Veteran who was a Vietnam Vet,

and he had a memory, a dream that kept coming up every night

for probably 20 years of his life.

He did one of the evidence-based treatments,

and at the end of treatment the dream went away.

He had processed, worked through whatever was bringing

and surfacing that dream.

And the Veteran continued to see the therapist

for a little bit of time following that, just to touch base

for support on occasion, and the dream didn't come back.

So, we tell people who have been struggling for a long time

that it is possible that some of this stuff can go away

with the right treatment.
