PTSD definitely took a toll on my marriage.

It's difficult to work on personal issues inside

of a relationship and it's really difficult too

to explain those things and explain those experiences

to somebody that wasn't there and has never experienced

that kind of a life experience I guess.

Never in the military, never, so for her to try and understand.

I didn't actually get with her

until after I was out of the military.

So a lot of the stuff she didn't understand.

And a lot of the issues that I was having with alcohol,

with all sorts of other addictions and with outbursts

of anger and not being able to sleep

and not being a very stable person, there's a lot of things

that she didn't understand and had a hard time understanding.

And at the same point, I wasn't necessarily the most

understanding person myself, so it makes it really tough to be

in a relationship and be able to work on those kind of issues.

And so yeah, it definitely took a huge toll on my marriage.
