[It] brought me face to face with some memories.

Jeff Goodrich (Army National Guard, US Army, 1984 - 2006) talks about what PTSD treatment was like.

Transcript

Well, the most challenging thing about

cognitive processing therapy, I think,

is having to come to terms with

the memories.

So instead of trying to forget

or pushing the memories away,

whatever those memories may be,

one of the key issues is

let's talk about some memories

and then let's write about some memories

and let's work through the memories

or a specific memory in various contexts.

So, whereas, I was actively not trying to think about

certain things,

this treatment paradigm

brought me face-to-face with some memories

and then a very specific memory

for the purpose of treatment.
