I'm very thankful that my father sought treatment
and stuck with it and has stuck with
different doctors, and different programs,
and all manner of different approaches toward this because
there wasn't much of a person there
before he sought treatment.
It was kind of a shell of a person, just
vacant, sort of distant look in his eye.
Weren't really sure if he was listening,
you weren't sure if he was going to be around.
And years later, I know I can pick up the phone
and I can call him, and if he doesn't pick up,
five minutes later I'll be getting a phone call back.
I know where he's going to be, he's going to be home.
I know if I need something, I can call him,
and just like you would hope your father would be,
whatever he can do, he will do.
And that's something, when I was 12 or 13,
I didn't think I would ever, I would ever see again.
So it's very heartening to see him able to do everything
that he could do before this all, before this all came down.
