I'm sure all of us were thinking the same thing, how fast can we get out of this place?

Elizabeth M. Hardy (US Army, 1983 - 2004) talks about what PTSD treatment was like.

I was just sitting with the counselor who was signing me in

and I was ranting and raving and way up here.

My level was way up here and I was telling her,

"I couldn't find a place to park!

You know, how do you expect people to come in here?

You can't park your car."

And you know, I think they were ready to toss me,

at least I thought they were.

Afterwards, I thought about it, I said, "God,

they could have tossed me out the same day."

I'm sure when, they knew I was there,

acting the way I was acting.

And then, of course, first session, they call it milieu.

That's when all, everybody gets together

in one session 'cause all the other sessions are classroom

sessions where you're learning your tools.

And the milieu sessions, my first milieu,

that's where everybody gets together

and they ask you how you're doing.

My first milieu session, God, I was quiet as a mouse.

" Oh, I'm doing fine."

"Are you really?"

"Yeah, I'm doing fine.

I'm getting myself situated, I'm fine here."

But you know, I'm sure all of us were thinking the same thing,

how fast can we get out of this place?

[laughs]
