I'm not the only Veteran who has either avoided entirely or postponed going to the VA.

Curtis Thompson, US Army 1968 - 1969, talks about why he didn't ask for help with his PTSD right away.

I know I'm not the only Veteran who has either avoided entirely

or postponed going to the Veteran's Administration

for help because it's so close emotionally, in my mind,

it is so quasi-military that regardless of their intent

or how they try to look and behave in my mind

at a level beyond my ability to wish it away,

it feels like back in the Army.

They may be slow.

There may be some people who are incompetent

or maybe even ill-willed like there are

in any large organizations

but I've also met some stellar people.

I've received in some cases outstanding treatment as good

or better than any I received anywhere else.

So it doesn't have to be the severe decades delayed battle

that I went through.
