I'm most proud to be an
African American veteran,
especially being a Cavalry Scout,
because it dates back to
a historic group of scouts
known as the Buffalo Soldiers.
And for me to be a part of that lineage,
years and years and years later,
I walk around with that,
and there's no greater feeling than that,
especially where we come from
as a country and where we are now.
I would tell anybody who's thinking
about joining the military,
any African American little
boy or girl out there
who's in David's position in
2005 to go ahead and do it.
You don't have to be a Cavalry Scout,
but I am where I am today
because I became a man in the military,
and it was a great head
start for me in my life.
And I'm glad of where I am today,
and I'm glad that I made the
decision to join the Army
when I was 17 years old.
