In 1996, I invited a friend of mine over to my house,
and he was also in the Marine Corps.
His intention was to give me a pamphlet to make me aware
that I may be suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder.
When he gave me the pamphlet, he said, "I realize
that you probably do not feel this way, but just read this."
And I said, "Skip, I'm going through my second divorce,
I've been in recovery for a long time now,
I'm screwed up, there's something wrong.
It can't be right because I'm heading in the wrong direction."
So that's when I was aware, and when I read the pamphlet,
I said to myself, "This is exact, this is me.
There's something wrong with me."
