If you were going to come into a PTSD clinic at the VA.

Dr. Steven Thorp (Clinical Psychologist) describes PTSD treatment.

Transcript

If you were to come into a PTSD clinic at the VA,

usually what you would find is

in most treatments we educate the Veteran about what PTSD is,

and we talk about the nature of the treatment.

So, we would tell you how often you're going to come in

for treatment, how long it's going to last each time,

who you're going to be meeting with.

And usually Veterans are quite anxious

when they're first coming in for treatment

because they don't know what to expect from the treatment.

They don't know the provider

that they're meeting with the first time.

And as time goes on, usually Veterans find

that that anxiety goes down, they start to feel

a little bit more comfortable in the clinic.

And certainly as time goes on within the treatment,

they kind of know how things work as time progresses,

and as they start to get better, things get easier and easier.

So what I would ask you is to stick with it,

that it's usually challenging at first, but the more you do it,

the easier it will get.
